Concept of Work
This Career Group provides career
tracks for education administrators
who direct educational programs, job training
and community service for schools, colleges and universities, businesses,
residential facilities, museums, and the public. Employees’ responsibilities
range from coordinator to expert in practitioner roles to executive management
in administrator roles. Duties include developing, implementing, evaluating,
and administering educational programs to increase and enhance educational
learning. Teacher licensure in accordance with the Code of Virginia
22.1-299 may be required.

Roles Comprising This Group
These roles describe the collective
characteristics of the work performed by employees in the Education
Administration Career Group. These roles define
the typical career paths for employees who pursue careers as administrators.
Although all of these occupations are educational administrators,
each warrants a separate career track. Each of these career paths requires
different knowledge, skills, and abilities and may not naturally lead
to the other for career progression. However a role for each of these
occupations represents different levels of work, or career progression.
Career paths may exist within a single role, extend to other roles in
this Career Group, or to roles in other occupationally related Career
Groups.

The Education
Administrator I role provides career tracks
for managers
of programmatic areas within an agency, museums, and educational facilities,
and involves budget development and monitoring, management of staff
and programs. Duties include development of operational policies and
procedures, and implementing and evaluating various educational programs
for the public, students, visitors and other related audiences. |

and practices.
- Contacts include staff, general public, professionals,
students, teachers, management, administrators, legislators, and
specialists within subject area for exchange of information.

Coordinator I role provides career tracks
for advanced level education
coordinators whose responsibilities range
from coordination to program supervision involving responsibilities
such as planning, coordinating, implementing, supervising, and evaluating
of a program(s) or service(s) statewide. |
Education Coordinator I
|
COMPLEXITY |
- Applies knowledge of the specialized area(s) and program administration.
- Applies knowledge of local school divisions, state and local
government policies/ procedures, state agency functions.
- Applies knowledge of federal grant management.
- Responsibilities include providing support services to teachers
and administrators; assisting with the design of research and
development projects; conducting research studies; providing technical
assistance and consultative services; participating in curriculum
planning, new course development, selection of materials, evaluation
of instructional activities and student services programs/policies;
supporting localities in efforts to assess program/service needs
and identifying problem areas; compiling statistical data to support
program goals and objectives; and administration of projects and
programs.
- Contact with government officials, community and special interest
groups, volunteers, businesses, teachers, administrators, and
board members to promote involvement in agency programs, provide
technical assistance and consultative services, and exchange information.

|
The Education
Administrator II role provides career tracks
for administrators,
such as principals,
responsible for coordinating, planning, directing and supervising
educational programs and services for a state college or university,
facility or agency with statewide scope. Duties include developing
and administering budgets; preparing and administering grants; selecting/developing
curricula and educational materials and monitoring accreditation standards;
evaluating scholarship and admission eligibility; and coordinating
facility operations. |

and administration, management principles and practices, and research
methodologies.
- Applies knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations.
- Contacts include staff, public, professionals, students, parents,

Coordinator II role provides career tracks
for educational coordinators
who act
as experts providing highly complex professional,
analytical, and/or technical educational expertise to a critical specialty
area. Responsibilities are multifaceted and involve administration
of multiple projects and statewide programs through the application
of broad technical expertise.

- Applies knowledge of local school divisions, state and local
government policies and procedures and state agency functions.
- Applies knowledge of research methods.
- May require considerable knowledge of technology use within

and board members to coordinate and discuss project assignments,
policy and program initiatives, and services.

|
The Education
Administrator III role provides career tracks
for administrators responsible
for managing or directing the programs, projects and staff of an educational
facility or divisional unit. Duties are unusually complex and include
the direction of service provision, the development of standards of
student achievement and educational program content, or serving as
the primary administrator and instructional leader for a specialized
school(s). Experts in this role are recognized on a local, state and
national basis in their specialty field. |
