Concept of Work
The Equipment
Service and Repair Career Group provides a career
track for equipment and repair
technicians that service and repair equipment,
such as aircraft, watercraft, automobiles, medium and heavy-duty on-road
and off-road equipment, musical equipment, elevators, boilers, turbines,
machines, and other related equipment. The range of work is from entry
level technical repair to management. Some positions may require FAA Airframe
and Powerplant certification with Inspection Authorization, State Vehicle
Inspection License; Commercial Driver’s License, or other relevant certifications.
Roles Comprising This Group
These roles describe the collective
characteristics of the work performed by employees in the Equipment
Service and Repair Career Group. The roles define
the typical career paths for employees who pursue careers in this field,
such as mechanics, machinists,
and installers and
repairers of various types of equipment.
Although all of these occupations are equipment service
and repair technicians, each warrants a separate career track. Each of
these career paths requires different knowledge, skills, and abilities
and would not naturally lead to the other for career progression. However,
a role for each of these occupations represents different levels of work,
or career progression. Career paths may exist within a single role, extend
to other roles in this Career Group, or to roles in other occupationally
related Career Groups.

The Equipment
Service and Repair Technician I role provides
a career path for service and repair technicians performing entry level
responsibilities to first line working supervisory responsibilities. Duties
include manually labor intensive work that involves the service and repair
of mechanical, electronic, and other equipment requiring technical knowledge
and expertise, effective diagnostic and repair techniques and procedures
related to a wide variety of equipment.
Equipment Service and Repair Technician I
COMPLEXITY
|
- Skill in the use of diagnostic equipment and a variety of tools
specific to the trade.
- Applies knowledge of the design and function of equipment.
- Performs skilled technician work that involves diagnosis, replacement,
repair and rebuilding of a variety of equipment, components and/or
systems.
- Ability to interpret and follow technical manuals, blueprints,
mechanical drawings, and schematics.
- Follows industry/ government specific guidelines, particularly
as they relate to safety, health and environmental practices.
- May apply principles and practices of electrical and electronics
theory.
- May require State inspection license and/or Commercial Drivers
license.

plan and prioritize work, and maintain appropriate records.

inspections, and maintain appropriate records.
