Concept of Work
This Career Group provides career
tracks for storekeeper assistants,
storekeepers, and warehouse specialists that
perform the full range of storeroom and/or warehouse functions including
receiving, shipping, issuing, selecting, inventorying, ordering, and storing
supplies, merchandise and equipment in an agency warehouse or storeroom.
Warehouse and storeroom processes may be manual or computerized with bar-code
scanning devices. Positions range from entry level to management level.
Roles Comprising This Group
These roles describe the collective
characteristics of the work performed by employees in the Stores
& Warehouse Operations Career Group. The
roles define the typical career paths for employees who pursue careers
as storekeeper assistants, storekeepers,
and warehouse specialists.
Although all of these occupations are store or warehouse
specialists, each warrants a separate career track. Each of these career
paths requires different knowledge, skills, and abilities and would not
naturally lead to the other for career progression. However, a role for
each of these occupations represents different levels of work, or career
progression. Career paths may exist within a single role, extend to other
roles in this Career Group, or to roles in other occupationally related
Career Groups.

and Warehouse Specialist I role provides career
tracks for helpers
or storekeeper assistants performing
entry level to journey level duties in a state agency or institutional
warehouse or storeroom. Employees assist others in receiving, storing
and issuing materials, equipment and supplies; perform manual labor; deliver
materials, equipment and supplies to designated locations.
Store and Warehouse Specialist I
COMPLEXITY

- Basic skills in the use of tools, equipment, and materials appropriate
to area.
- Applies knowledge of procedures and techniques appropriate to
the area.
- Some related experience and/or formal training in the area.
- Must be able to perform physical requirements of job.
- May require a valid drivers license.

and Warehouse Specialist II role provides career
tracks for storekeepers or
warehouse specialists
performing entry level to advanced level
range of warehouse functions. Responsibilities
include receiving, shipping, issuing, selecting, inventorying, ordering,
and storing supplies, merchandise and equipment in an agency warehouse
or storeroom. May serve as a lead worker.
Store and Warehouse Specialist II
COMPLEXITY
|
- Duties range from loading and unloading items to a more specialized
function, such as storing and shipping controlled substances.
- Knowledge of storage/ handling techniques and safety regulations.
- Skill in operating equipment, such as forklifts, pallet drivers,
and hand carts.
- May require certification for operating a forklift.
- May require valid drivers license.

- Items are accurately received, stored, inventoried and shipped
according to procedures.

ACCOUNTABILITY
|
- Resolves routine questions and problems, but refers complex
issues to higher levels.

tracks for storekeepers
or warehouse specialists who
perform expert level warehouse responsibilities or supervision of other
store or warehouse workers. Employees serving as experts may be responsible
for quality checks, reports, inventory control, resolving shipping, receiving,
and distribution issues, or training others on use of specific equipment.
Store and Warehouse Specialist III
COMPLEXITY
|
- Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and complexity
ranging from replenishing inventory, quality checks, maintaining
records, to supervision of others.
- Skill in use, care, and safety of store or warehouse equipment,
including forklifts.
- Adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment
to meet special needs.
- Extensive experience in general storeroom or warehouse inventory
control functions.
- Responsibilities include vendor relations, coordination and
evaluation.
- Special license may be required for certain positions within
this role.

- Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex
store or warehouse problems and issues, such as distribution,
quality control, inventory control, and safety regulations.

ACCOUNTABILITY
|
- May orient, train, assign and check the work of lower level
employees.
- May be designated as lead worker or supervise a small group
of specialists.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Advises others on resolution of complex problems, referring
problems involving policy to managers.
- Supervisors are responsible for hiring and performance evaluation
of subordinates.

Manager I role provides career tracks for managers
of several operations within a warehouse that receives, stocks, selects
and ships items throughout the state to those managing a specific warehouse.
Warehouse Manager I
COMPLEXITY

- Coordinates all activities of a warehouse or several functions
of a warehouse, such as fleet management, receiving, shipping,
and surplus property, having multiple projects to meet project
deadlines and budgets.
- Resolves conflicting demands of users.
- Applies knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
- Applies knowledge of particular warehouse function(s), such
as inventory management, scheduling, and distribution.

- Warehouse or assigned unit of the warehouse operates efficiently
while ensuring proper handling of merchandise.

Warehouse Manager II

The Warehouse
Manager II role provides career tracks for managers
of a statewide central warehouse that range from assistant managers to
manager of the central warehouse. Employees manage a large and diverse
staff, multiple distribution points, high dollar merchandise, and a wide
range of customers that may include all state agencies, institutions,
and political subdivisions and/or the general public.
Warehouse Manager II
COMPLEXITY
|
- Prioritizes and assigns work to staff.
- Plans and implements the delivery and improvement of services,
staffing, and resources.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of services provided and recommends
changes in procedures to meet user’s needs.
- Extensive management experience with knowledge of warehouse
management.
- Manages the material handling and financial operations that
includes planning of inventory levels and inventory control.

- Warehouse operations ensure good customer service, safety of
workers and security of the merchandise.
- Warehouse operates within budget and meets program goals.

ACCOUNTABILITY
|
- Ranges from managing assigned operations to the entire warehouse
operations.

staff.
